Making Mirrors
Making Mirrors – Of Bodies and Gazes
2011 at NGBK - featured Artists: Rajkamal Kalohn, Jean-Ulrick Désert and others
How does art influence our perception and/or image of the self and the Other? How have artists of the past and presence projected fantasies of “race” and others from inside our heads into external reality, crossing social constructions intertwined with these and bringing them to life? (How) can artists work against a structure in which they are inevitably ensnared, such as making visible social constructions and the unequal power relations resulting from them, without perpetuating them at the same time? (How) can we learn to see in a new way through art?
“Making Mirrors – of Bodies and Gazes“- presents artists who deal with these and similar questions in their work. The project focuses on how these themes can be communicated and become politically effective beyond the boundaries of the NGBK gallery. Please refer to our open call
